Myanmar FestivalsFestivals in Myanmar
Thingyan , the merriest & longest of
Myanmar traditional festival, was generally held all over
the country on mid of April. During the festival period,
people pour water over one another, with much singing &
dancing at decorated pavilions. Pouring water signifies
cleansing the body and mind of evils of the past year.
Fire balloon festival & competition were held on
November, in Taunggyi, Shanstate. Huge balloons in the
shapes of animals were released in the day festivals. The
balloons released at night had fireworks multi-colored
lights and small lanterns attached to the main balloon. Many
different races & religious ceremonies could be seen on the
midway.
Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival is annually held from the end of Sep: The pagoda is homed to the five deeply venerated images of Buddha. During the festival, the images are placed on a decorated royal barge in the form of a mythical bird & taking around the inlay lake stopping over at villages to let people pay homage. There will be fan fairs & dances, and the unique event of the festival is the boat races participated by leg-rowers.
